The Diabetes Ireland team and the family, teenagers and children who attended our Type 1 family weekend had the best of times. The pictures say it all –

For those who could not attend this year, the following is what happened over the weekend;-

Parents were kept busy while children enjoyed themselves at organised activities from 10am-5pm. The parent group clicked wonderfully and shared knowledge and support right from the Friday check-in at 5pm  to Sunday check-out.

Saturday Parent workshops 10.30am-12.30

  • Helen Fitzgerald Diabetes Nurse Specialist Tallaght Hospital  – “New Technologies for diabetes”
  • Kate Gajewska “Parental challenges of Type 1 diabetes: how to deal with your child’s diabetes without losing your mind? Coping skills and tips from a grown up with diabetes”.

Sunday Parent Workshop – 10.30am-12.30

  • Professor Hilary Hoey, Paediatric Consultant Endocrinologist -“Family Unit Health”
  • Question and Answer session with Prof Hilary Hoey and Dr. Anna Clarke.

Valuable Feedback from Parents –

“What I hadn’t really expected was that I would come home feeling differently about Diabetes – I feel calmer and less stressed about every blood sugar.  After listening to all the speakers I realise that we ARE actually doing all the things that we should be doing and CAN be doing and that after that it’s OK to step back and breathe”

“The kids had so much fun despite the weather and the talks were really useful and informative. Hope that you do run it as an annual event as we would definitely go again.”
