You will find that some of these recipes include sugar and that the traffic light system indicates red, as the recipe may be high in sugars but this does not mean that they can’t be included as part of a balanced diet.
We are trying to increase awareness that having diabetes does not mean you must follow a diet that restricts sugar, as this is not the case.
Small amounts of sugar are fine, particularly if they are combined with foods that are high in fibre. Desserts, biscuits and confectionery are not forbidden but because these are also usually high in calories, fat and sugar, people with diabetes should only have these occasionally.
