Recipes

Welcome to our Recipes Page

Some of these recipes have been adapted from safefood with information tailored to those with Diabetes. Many others have been suggested by our members or are firm favourites within the Diabetes Ireland Team, and all recipes have been nutritionally analysed by our dietitians.

You will find that some of these recipes include sugar and that the traffic light system indicates red, as the recipe may be high in sugars but this does not mean that they can’t be included as part of a balanced diet.

We are trying to increase awareness that having diabetes does not mean you must follow a diet that focusses solely on the restriction sugar, as this is not the case. Rather, a balanced healthy diet is the best approach. Small amounts of sugar are fine, particularly if they are combined with foods that are high in fibre as this lessens the impact on blood glucose levels. So, while desserts, biscuits and confectionery are not forbidden but because these are also usually high in calories, fat and sugar, people with diabetes (like the rest of the population) should only have these occasionally and in small amounts.

Check out the food and diabetes section on the website for more information and background to healthy eating for diabetes. And if you would like to see your favourite recipe featured, let us know. We would love to hear from you!
