Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) Panel for the Converge Research Centre

Name of Study

Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) Panel for the Converge Research Centre

Purpose of Study (300 words)

PPI is research carried out ‘with’ or ‘by’ members of the public with lived experience rather than ‘to’, ‘about’ or ‘for’ them. It means working in collaboration or partnership with patients, carers, service users, families, people with lived experience, or the public, in planning, designing, managing, conducting, dissemination and translation of research.

Converge: Centre for Chronic Disease and Population Health Research are creating a panel of PPI partners who can share their lived experience to inform one, or multiple, of our research studies. As a research centre we are involved in multiple studies running at the same time. We also collaborate with healthcare professionals, policymakers, and other groups to make sure our findings lead to real changes that can improve lives.

We are now looking to create a panel of PPI partners who can work with us to:
1) Ensure the research questions, and the research being conducted, is important to those who will be affected by the research and subsequent findings.
2) Improve the quality of the research being conducted.
3) Ensure research findings are being communicated effectively to the general public.

Type of Study (observational/exploratory etc)

  • Yes

State geographical location of study (city/county/country) (single or multiple sites)

What will the participants be asked to do? (max 300 words)

PPI members will work with us to:

3) Identify ways that patients/carers can be recruited to participate in our research studies.
