New Parliamentary Group on Diabetes to be set up

Following a World Diabetes Day presentation to TDs and Senators, kindly organised by Mary Butler TD and Frank O’Rourke TD, Diabetes Ireland is delighted to announce it will be working with interested Oireachtas Members to set up a cross party Diabetes Parliamentary Group in Leinster House to raise awareness of the need for a long term diabetes strategy to improve care and support for people with both Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes nationwide.

The group will work with Diabetes Ireland and other stakeholders to identify the key areas that require funding and make recommendations to the Government for funding of these areas.

The group will be chaired by Frank O’Rourke TD who is keen to hold the first meeting in the next few weeks.

Diabetes Ireland will provide administrative and research support for the group.  “ This is a very positive outcome from World Diabetes Day 2019 celebrations and on behalf of Diabetes Ireland, I would like to thank everyone who marked World Diabetes Day by highlighting and promoting awareness of diabetes nationwide on 14 November” said Kieran O’Leary, CEO.
