Purpose of Study (300 words) |
|
|
As part of my MSc in Health Psychology dissertation with University of Galway, supervised by Professor Molly Byrne and Marcia Carvalho, I am conducting the following research: This study aims to investigate the experiences of adults with type-2 diabetes who are currently taking a weight loss medication in the GLP-1 RA family, with particular interest in any psychosocial or behavioural effects of the medications. Glucagon-like peptide-one receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) are a medication class for the treatment of type-2 diabetes and obesity. There are four GLP-1 RAs available for prescription in the Republic of Ireland: semaglutide, liraglutide, dulaglutide and exenatide. These are sold under the following brand names: Ozempic, Wegovy, Saxenda, Victoza, Trulicity, Byetta and Bydureon. Interviews will be conducted with participants and interview data will be analysed using reflexive thematic analysis.
