Diabetes Ireland announced as Charity Partner for A Summer’s Evening on the Quad, UCC

This year Diabetes Ireland is delighted to announce that we have been chosen as one of the charity partners of “A Summer’s Evening on the Quad at UCC”.

As darkness falls on the evening of Saturday 14 July, UCC’s Main Quad will come to life with a bang for A Summer’s Evening on the Quad open-air concert, in aid of some of Cork most deserving causes.

This is the 13th year of this special event and, although unlucky for some, 13 is proving a lucky number for concert organisers who are bringing one of the finest line-up of performers to date, to UCC for one night only. The Definitive Rat Pack, joined by soul diva Karen Underwood, backed once again by 20-piece Band of An Garda Síochána, will bring swinging big-band favourites and soul classics to an audience of more than 2,000 people for what promises to be a spectacular evening.

What started out as an event organised by a group of volunteers from UCC and the Gardaí, has grown into an annual, must-see and must-hear musical extravaganza loved by a diverse range of music fans.

“We started the concert as a community charity event, hoping to have one every five years but it just took off!” said Pat Cotter, UCC, the event’s co-founder.  “To date, this event has supported more than 20 charities and we expect to exceed the €600,000 mark this year in funds raised.  We hand over 100% of tickets sales to our charity partners.  We are able to do this because we have great sponsors who generously support the event, fantastic acts who are generous with their time, and UCC and Garda Síochána staff and management who work tirelessly with us.”

This year’s concert is made possible by the backing of Cork University Business School and Bank of Ireland who are sponsoring a large portion of the cost of producing the concert, as well as the Tomar Trust, O’Donovan Agri, Evening Echo, River Lee Hotel, Cork’s 96FM and whose generous support enables A Summer’s Evening on the Quad to make it to the stage.

A Summer’s Evening on the Quad takes place in UCC on Saturday 14th July at 8pm.

Tickets are €30.

Diabetes Ireland has 100 tickets for sale, with all proceeds going directly to the Diabetes Ireland Cork Care Centre.
