We are very excited to announce the return of our Cork Canoe Challenge. It will take place on the River Lee on June 7th.

This year we will be joined by Deirdre O’Donovan and Jennifer Bonus from Operation Transformation. Deirdre and Jennifer are looking for team members to join them at this unique event. As Jennifer points out “No previous canoeing experience is required and the distance of each leg is very achievable for all levels of fitness, all equipment is supplied ” Deirdre goes on to say “ this local hard working charity needs our goodwill and support”

Last year many Cork companies took part as well as individuals. It is an ideal day out for groups of colleagues, family and friends. The event will take place on Saturday, June 7th at 1pm and will see teams of ten take to the water. The ‘Cork Canoe Challenge’ will comprise of five separate legs, each over one kilometer in distance, paddling under bridges and running through Cork City.

The ‘Cork Canoe Challenge’ provides a great opportunity for the people of Cork to fully experience their local river. The fundraiser is being run in conjunction with the Phoenix Kayak Club. The race will begin and finish at The Port of Cork where complimentary refreshments and prize giving will be held locally for all participants. The entry fee for The Cork Canoe Challenge is 15 euro per person and each participant is provided with a sponsorship card to help raise much required funds.

Diabetes Ireland is appealing to all supporters to take part as a competitor or spectator on the day. We have been very affected by the downturn in fundraising due to bad publicity in the charity sector. We are a fully compliant charity and are happy to answer any queries that people may have about our finances and activities.
