Avon Ri – Type 1 Diabetes Family Weekend

8th-10th September 2017 – What a blast!!!

Avon Ri Type 1 Family Weekend was a great success and lots of fun was had by all….despite the showers! 28 families attended and 75 children took part in the various activities across the weekend.

While the kids were making friends and having fun, parents had education workshops on;

  • Continuous Glucose monitoring and interpreting the data
  • Best practice guidelines in schools
  • Psychological challenges of living with diabetes as a child or adolescent
  • Hearing from a person with diabetes and how they overcome the daily challenges

Parents speak to one another, sharing experiences, asking questions and offering advice to one another. This event is really an invaluable experience for everyone involved.

Vicky Doyle Health Promotion and Advocacy Executive and organiser of this event comments “these events are so important for Type 1’s and their families to meet one another and know they are not alone. I hope they all had a great weekend and I would like to thank all the leaders who volunteered their time for this rewarding weekend”
