Development of new diabetes treatments is a fast moving area and we’ve come a long way in recent years. While there is still no cure for diabetes, the research is making steady progress on improving the drugs and devices that people with both type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes use.

JDRF researchers in the US have found a protein that can protect insulin-producing beta cells from the immune system, potentially paving the way for beta cell transplants that don’t require anti-rejection drugs.
New findings published in the PLOS ONE scientific journal say up to 24,000 people in Ireland could have undiagnosed type 2 diabetes.
