Annie raising funds for Diabetes Ireland

A Diabetes Ireland Fund Raiser  – Annie O’Sullivan

Annie is raising funds for Diabetes Ireland.  Annie gives us an account of the day “We started at 8am with Diabetes Risk Assessment & Blood Glucose Screening with our very professional, friendly and dedicated Diabetes Ireland Nurse Jenny Dunbar and our own screening nurse Ann Binchy.

Staff could then continue on their corridor of health by taking a 4 minute self-health check on our Health station which measured their Weight, Height, Blood Pressure, Body Fat, Heart Rate and Heart Age Score. Then on to the Cycleathon to help beat Diabetes. We had so many volunteers donating their time on our spin bikes. We had spot prizes for all volunteers and they gave it socks on the bike. We kept our bikes going from 8am to 4pm which I was so proud of. As you dismounted your bike we had our own in-house chef who prepared the delicious Pea Risotto taken from the Diabetes Ireland website. While you enjoyed your risotto you could join our Health Hub where we had 3 health, fitness and nutritional experts on hand to answer all your questions. To wrap up our health session we had a Raffle to Dazzle where we had 23 spot prizes including gym memberships for local leisure centres, a signed hurley by the current Kilkenny team (that was won by a Wexford woman!!!), a variety of health and fitness vouchers and some very interesting holistic treatments to help you melt away your aches and pains after your trip on our health corridor”

It was a huge success raising a whopping €1393.45. I really enjoyed organising and participating in this event and I am so grateful for all the support I received from all my colleagues across VHI. I reached my target yesterday. I am thrilled and cannot believe I have raised this amount of money.
