For Teachers, Special Need Assistants and School Staff

Dear Teachers, SNA’s and other School Staff

We prepared this piece to help you, parents and children get to know a bit more about one of the most common chronic conditions in school-aged children – type 1 diabetes. Children spend loads of time at school and school staff provide an extremely important set of eyes for pupils. As they spend so much time with pupils, teachers can (and do) support children who have chronic illnesses, like diabetes, and can recognise the symptoms of undiagnosed illnesses.

Below you can find information on how to recognise the symptoms of type 1 diabetes, and how to support parents and children with diabetes during school.
