University Clinical Skills Laboratories on Diabetes

Diabetes Ireland provide their own time and recruit volunteers to engage with medical students in Universities in order to  progress their education on Diabetes and to bring to life the practicalities of day-to-day life living with diabetes.

The volunteer (either a type 1 or Type 2 candidate) spends 2 x 2 hour sessions in a Clinical Skills Laboratory with the students and demonstrate how a glucometer and insulin pen works. The students then demonstrate on one another. The students attend a lecture with a Diabetes Ireland specialist once the labs have been completed.

This work is provided free of charge.
