Who can take part?

The study population includes people diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) within the Republic of Ireland who are involved in the self-management of their T2D. To be eligible to participate, they must have a medical diagnosis of T2D, be at least 18 years old, fluent in English, and have capacity to give voluntary informed consent. Participants are generally required to complete the questionnaire independently or with the help of their family members.

What will the participants be asked to do? (max 300 words)

Once the study recruitment is posted on the social media, potential participants will be invited to take part in an anonymous online questionnaire. Participation is entirely voluntary, and individuals who meet the inclusion criteria may choose whether or not to participate. Participants will access the questionnaire by scanning a QR code or clicking on a survey link. The questionnaire will be administered online via SurveyMonkey and is expected to take approximately 10 minutes to complete. At the beginning of the questionnaire, detailed study information and the Participant Information Leaflet (PIL) will be provided. Participants who wish to take part will be required to indicate their consent before proceeding with the survey.
No identifiable personal information will be collected, and participants’ IP addresses will not be recorded, ensuring anonymity. A pilot study involving 30 participants has already been completed.
During Phase 1, in addition to basic demographic information, participants will be asked to complete the following three questionnaires:
1. The Self-administered Comorbidity Questionnaire (SCQ), which assesses the presence of other long-term health conditions.
2. The Diabetes Self-Management Questionnaire-Revised (DSMQ-R), which evaluates diabetes self-management behaviours.
3. The Diabetes Management Self-Efficacy Scale (DMSES), which measures confidence in managing diabetes.
