  • Our informed staff cover our Diabetes Ireland helpline, Mon-Fri 9am-5pm and we take thousands of calls every year from members and non-members and do our best to help people. We receive many calls from people who have just been diagnosed, having left their GP where they absorb little of what they are hearing as they are in shock.  Lo-call 1850 909 909
  • Mag collageERM Brokers & Zurich Insurance provide a competitive, preferential car insurance rate to Diabetes Ireland members when you quote your membership number. This dedicated telephone line is an excellent way to PRICE CHECK against other Insurers, to ensure you get the best possible rate when you are phoning around to renew your car insurance.  Also as a Diabetes Ireland member, you do not need a “fitness to drive” certificate from your GP. Telephone 1890 161 162
  • Members receive a €10 to €20 discount on appointments in our Care Centres in Dublin & Cork. We offer Podiatry (Foot Care) Hearing, Counselling and Dietetic appointments. Our Health professionals have extensive clinical experience, they are not fresh from college, as we deal with some chronic cases. Free phone Dublin 1850 909 909 and Cork 021 427 4229

  • We stock a super range of specialised Diabetes friendly shoes, socks and other foot products. Orthotics are also stocked. We carry only the best brands and most importantly, above all else, as we are a charity, we do NOT add a profit margin on our shoes. We Practice with Integrity and will only recommend and sell you a product IF you need it.   You benefit from savings at our online shop

  • We produce a full colour ‘good read’ magazine 4 times a year and post it to your home address. Some members renew for that alone!
  • start course image for websitefront page of Living Well with Type 2 diabetes
  • Knowledge – “Know your condition as well, if not better, than anyone else is our advice”. A personalised information pack when you become a member with books, online learning videos and leaflets on diabetes, healthy eating, reading labels and more. In 2016 we produced a NEW comprehensive reference book “Living Well with Type 2 Diabetes” and a series of online videos and quizzes called “Diabetes Smart”. We will be producing similar products for all areas of diabetes. Producing and supplying these materials costs money. Your membership funds support this progress.
  • Our collection of enthusiastic employees have the ability and desire to keep up-to-date on diabetes initiatives and entitlements and we keep you informed
  • Advocacy is one of our big strengths and we have learned the hard way over the years. Our CEO and Head of Health Promotions are here over 18 years and have learnt the ropes on how to fight your corner on every front. We are always working to improve diabetes services in Ireland for you

  • Many people do NOT realise they must declare their diabetes diagnosis when taking out Travel Insurance. In the small print of mainstream policies, you will see that pre-existing conditions, of which diabetes is one, are NOT covered. Should an incident occur while on holiday which is ’caused by’ or ‘aggravated by’ diabetes and recognised by the professional who is treating the incident, the mainstream Insurance Policy is void. This is a BIG RISK. ERM, our insurance partners, will quote you for Travel Insurance cover. They are very familiar with diabetes insurance markets. They will provide a quotation and then refer you to an OSG Medical Screening telephone line where you are asked some questions. A premium may or may not be added at that point and you revert back to Grainne in  ERM to book the policy. Refusals are rare according to ERM. We strongly encourage everyone to disclose their condition when taking out travel insurance. Telephone Grainne in ERM on 01 845 4361 for further information
  • As a member you, and/or your child get priority notice (e.g. a week in advance of public notice) to some events and are made aware of all events which includes Public Meetings, Educational Courses, Workshops, Exhibitions. We keep you ‘in the know’ on Diabetes

And there are another few reasons…..

  • Strengthen the Diabetes Ireland voice as we advocate on behalf of everyone living in Ireland with diabetes for better services and practices
  • It is an opportunity to meet other people and families who are living with diabetes and share your experiences and knowledge with them
  • Access to support, advice and educational workshops
  • We support local volunteers and facilitate their fund raising activities every way we can. Our grassroots system is vitally important as they are on the ground in all areas throughout Ireland
  • For young children and adolescents there is an opportunity to meet their peers at events like our teen activity day and our Sweet Pea Kidz Club days out
  • But most importantly, WE NEED YOU to add your support to our effort as there is strength in numbers!

*To include Sweetpea Kidz Club membership in your Diabetes Ireland membership please take out a family membership and fill in you child’s name and date of birth in the form below.
