SUMMARY:BELMULLET- Type 2 & Pre-diabetes Education Course (CODE)
DESCRIPTION:Structured education course for Type 2 & Pre-diabetes  \nCODE is Diabetes Ireland’s  group education programme for people with Type 2 Diabetes or diagnosed Pre-diabetes.  CODE aims to deliver general information about diabetes self-management in a local community group setting. CODE allows people with diabetes to talk in a supportive atmosphere about their own diabetes. Time is allocated during the programme for problem solving\, feedback on diabetes self management behaviours and goal setting. \nThe programme is facilitated by Ms Clair Naughton\, Diabetes Nurse Specialist for Diabetes Ireland and consists of 4 sessions of 2 hour duration.  The first 3 sessions take place over 3 consecutive weeks Aras Inis Gluaire\, Belmullet\, Co Mayo. \nTHIS COURSE IS POSTPONED \nWeek 1:  Wednesday April 11th   from  10 am to 12.30 pm \nWeek 2: Wednesday April 18th   from 10 am to 12 noon \nWeek 3: Wednesday April 25th from 10 am to 12 noon \nReview Session:  Wednesday October 10th from 10 am to 12 noon \nCODE is free of charge. \nTopics covered in CODE include diabetes explained\, risk factors\, signs and symptoms\, healthy eating\, physical activity\, personal goal setting\, complications and the necessity of regular follow up and the importance of optimal diabetes control. The six month session looks at the review of achievements and personal goal setting. SUMMARY:Type 2 Diabetes Introduction Talk- Rathmines Library
DESCRIPTION:Rathmines Library in conjunction with Deveneys pharmacy\, Rathmines  at 6 pm \nDietitian and Regional Development Officer of Diabetes Ireland\, Ms Sinead Powell  will provide a simple introduction to Type 2 diabetes and how it can be delayed or prevented. By looking at the role of carbohydrates and sugars in our everyday diet\, she will illustrate how small modifications to meals and portion control can reduce the risk of Type 2 diabetes and help us manage glucose control in diabetes. She will also discuss the impact of exercise on Type 2 diabetes management and prevention.

SUMMARY:Trabolgan Family Weekend
DESCRIPTION:Trabolgan will take place later this year\, on the weekend of Friday the 20th April to Sunday 22nd April 2018. \nThe weekend activities will include workshops for parents and a workshop for children with diabetes. We also hope to run a workshop for siblings of children with diabetes.
