Children/ teenagers are free. \n  \n10.45-10.55:  Coffee /tea and chat in reception. \n11 am sharp: Nuturition talk given by Michael Murphy upstairs \n11.20 -12.10: sharing of recipies \n12.10-12.30 : food tasting and tidy up. \nMichael Murphy has recently achieved QQ1 5/6 in Human Nutrition/ Sports Nutrition and will open the discussion with a presentation on low GI food and how to put together meals to help us perform well in sports\, relaxation and everyday life. Michael has had type 1 diabetes for 20 years and regularly does 10 mile hikes in the mountains with his local club. He will advise us on some of the nutrition tips he uses in order to be able to achieve his own goals.  He is very passionate about the topic as he sees how important it is. He will speak about nutrition for 20 minutes and then we will share our own recipes. \nIf you have a recipe that you would like to share please email Carmel   (carmel@maints.com)  beforehand with the details of  your recipe.

SUMMARY:CORK University Clinical Skills- Diabetes Education
DESCRIPTION:University Clinical Skills Laboratories on Diabetes\nDiabetes Ireland provide their own time and recruit volunteers to engage with medical students in Universities in order to  progress their education on Diabetes and to bring to life the practicalities of day-to-day life living with diabetes. \nThe volunteer (either a type 1 or Type 2 candidate) spends 2 x 2 hour sessions in a Clinical Skills Laboratory with the students and demonstrate how a glucometer and insulin pen works. The students then demonstrate on one another. The students attend a lecture with a Diabetes Ireland specialist once the labs have been completed. \nThis work is provided free of charge.

SUMMARY:Cork - Type 2 Diabetes Education (CODE)
DESCRIPTION:CODE is Diabetes Ireland’s  group education programme for people with Type 2 Diabetes or diagnosed Pre-diabetes.  CODE aims to deliver general information about diabetes self-management in a local community group setting. CODE allows people with diabetes to talk in a supportive atmosphere about their own diabetes. Time is allocated during the programme for problem solving\, feedback on diabetes self management behaviours and goal setting. \nThe programme is facilitated by Jenny Dunbar\, Diabetes Nurse Specialist and consists of 4 sessions of 2 hour duration  The first 3 sessions take place over 3 consecutive weeks \nWeek 1: Tuesday 31st January   time tbc\nWeek 2: Tuesday 7th February  time tbc\nWeek 3:  Tuesday 14th February  time tbc \nReview Session: early August (date tbc) \nThis review session takes place six months after the start date. CODE is free of charge to both the patient and the health care professional. \nTopics covered in CODE include diabetes explained\, risk factors\, signs and symptoms\, healthy eating\, physical activity\, personal goal setting\, complications and the necessity of regular follow up and the importance of optimal diabetes control. The six month session looks at the review of achievements and personal goal setting.
