DESCRIPTION:We are very excited to have Gavin Griffiths\, the Diathlete\, joining us in Dublin this January. Gavin will be hosting 2 workshops at the Diabetes Ireland Head Office in Santry. He is a well-known type 1 endurance sports athlete and you can read more about him and all he has accomplished here. On the evening he will talk about his own experiences\, share tips and answer questions. \nFamilies\, children and parents workshop: Monday\, January 4th\, 5pm – 6pm.\nAdolescents and adults workshop: Monday\, January 4th\, 6.30pm – 7.30pm. \nThese workshops are free to attend. DESCRIPTION:Please note\, these events are only open to the staff of the organisation hosting the training the session.   \nDid you know? \n\n61% of people living with Intellectual Disabilities are at risk of Pre-Diabetes or Type 2 diabetes\n16% of people with Intellectual Disabilities aged over 40 are already living with Type 2 diabetes\n\nWith this in mind Diabetes Ireland have developed a programme to provide training to the carers of those living with Intellectual Disabilities. Our healthcare professionals\, Sinead Hanley and Pauline Dunne\, will be visiting organisations across the country  to deliver a practical interactive awareness session to carers of people with Intellectual Disability. These training sessions aim to provide carers with the skills to help prevent Type 2 diabetes and manage those already living with the condition. \nIf you are interested in hosting a session please contact Diabetes Ireland on 01 842 8118.

DESCRIPTION:A free 3 week CODE programme will take place in Santry on Thursday January 14th for 3 consecutive weeks with a final session in 6 months’ time (tbc). \nCODE is an education programme which supports people with diabetes through group learning and participation. Vicky\, who herself was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at 11 years old\, will talk to students and create awareness around type 1 and type 2 diabetes across the Leinster region. DESCRIPTION:The Westmeath Branch of Diabetes Ireland are holding a fundraising table quiz in Berty’s Bar at the Annebrook Hotel\, Mullingar on Thursday 28th January at 8.30pm. The Quizmaster is the excellent Michael Duffy.
