Time is allocated during the programme for problem solving\, feedback on diabetes self management behaviours and goal settling. Diabetes knowledge and skills are reinforced and the responsibility for the personal self management of diabetes is gradually strengthened. \nTopics covered in CODE include diabetes explained\, risk factors\, signs and symptoms\, healthy eating\, physical activity\, personal goal setting\, complications and the necessity of regular follow up and the importance of optimal diabetes control. The six month session looks at the review of achievements and personal goal setting. Our flexible approach allows the sessions to be tailored to meet the self identified needs of each group. \n

SUMMARY:Strength In Numbers Conference
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to be apart of an innovative and exciting conference that will take place in NUI Galway\, on the 23rd of June 2016. The Strength in Numbers Conference aims to bring together service providers\, policy makers\, researchers and young adults with type 1 diabetes to share and develop new approaches to diabetes management. \nOrganisers are currently conducting a Health Research Board-funded study to develop an intervention to improve outcomes for young adults with Type 1 Diabetes in Ireland. Sean Dinneen is the Principal Investigator on this multidisciplinary research study. They have conducted a systematic review of interventions in this area and a qualitative study with young adults and service providers and are now using the Behaviour Change Wheel\, a novel method from behavioural science to develop interventions\, to develop our intervention. A really exciting and novel aspect of this research\, is that they have successfully engaged a young adult panel of 18 to 25 year olds (n=8) living with type 1 diabetes\, and members of this panel input to all aspects of the research. \nPROGRAMME DETAILS AND HOW TO REGISTER FOR THIS FREE EVENT ARE AVAILABLE HERE \nJoin the conversation on twitter #T1DSINs2016. SUMMARY:Dublin - Diabetes Education CODE
DESCRIPTION:Would you like to learn more about your diabetes and meet other people with diabetes in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere?An education course\, developed by the Diabetes Ireland\, is being run at our Care Centre in Northwood \,Santry. \nThe aim of the course is to help you manage your diabetes and it will cover topics such as diabetes knowledge and management\, nutrition and physical activity and self-monitoring of diabetes control. \nThe course will be run by: Sinead Powell\, Dietitian\, Diabetes Ireland \nEach session will be 2 hours long and includes tea/ coffee break. There is no cost involved in attending this course. Group numbers are limited to 12 so early booking is essential. \n 3rd week:          Tuesday 5th July                      10.30am to 12.30 \nFinal:               Tuesday 29th November           10.30am to 12.30pm \nYou are asked to attend all four sessions to get maximum benefit from the course. \nIf you would like to attend this course  please contact Sheila Bourke  in Diabetes Ireland on 01 8428118. \nParking is available in the Home base car park or there is a pay and display car park closer to the office between Costa coffee and Northwood House

DESCRIPTION:This event is a day long event without parents. \nYou can choose from 4 centres around the country.  Choose the centre closest to you. \n1. Carlingford Adventure Centre\, Co.Louth \n2.Dunmore East Adventure Centre\, Waterford \n3. East Cork Adventure Centre\, Cork \n4. North West Adventure Centre\, Co. Sligo \n \nBuses will be provided depending on demand and we will confirm arrangements closer to the date. \nEach centre will have a range of activities including land and water-based activities such as Archery\, Rope climbing\, Kayaking\, and Team Building events. \nA hot lunch and snacks will be provided for the teens on the day .
