SUMMARY:Clare Type 1 Diabetes Group Meetup - Cancelled
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe next meet up of the Clare Type 1 Diabetes Group will take place on Tuesday 18th of February at 8pm in The Temple Gate Hotel\, Ennis\, with guest speaker\, Sara Lasker presenting “Diabetes Seeing the Whole Person.” \n  \nSara recently moved to Limerick from Seattle and have been living with type 1 diabetes for over 35 years. She also holds a master’s degree in Health Education\, Master Certified Health Education Specialist and Certified Diabetes Educator! \n  \nShe has worn many hats throughout her various experiences in the diabetes community: education\, government\, medical clinics\, and non-profits.  Prior to her move to Ireland she owned and managed her own Health and Wellness Coaching Business\, Healthy and Hygge®. \n  \nWith specific focus on Pre-diabetes and Type 1 diabetes she worked to help people find balance in all areas of wellness.  Since her moved to Ireland last year she is still working to empower people with diabetes to open their mind\, design the life they want\, and build self-confidence to live life to the fullest while managing this life-long disease. Sara’s mantra is “Health is more than just the number on a glucose meter.” \n  \nDiabetes Seeing the Whole Person: \nAs you know\, Diabetes is a FULL-TIME job that as a person with diabetes we do not get paid for and spend a lot of time and money to manage! However\, in study after study\, people with diabetes express a desire to be “perceived as persons\, not illnesses” and suggest medical professionals who focus exclusively on medical problem-solving often leave them feeling reduced to their disease.  For example\, being called a “diabetic” is reducing us to our disease. So\, let’s start sharing our whole selves.  Be ready to chat about how to shift our focus to look at how diabetes affects all aspects of our life: occupational\, social\, spiritual\, intellectual\, physical\, emotional\, environmental\, and financial. \n  \nThe Clare Type 1 Diabetes group is free to attend\, open to anyone who wants to learn more about Type 1 Diabetes and an excellent opportunity to meet others living with it. Newcomers are always welcome! If you would like more information about this support group call Grainne at 087 654 8320 or email Claresupport@diabetes.ie \n  \n
