This meeting provides ‘live’ expert advice and it is free to attend.  Pauline will cover current nutrition recommendations for ‘free sugar’ intake\, highlighting sources of sugars people may not be aware of\, which may impact on a person’s diabetes self-management. \n“Our intake of sugar has increased dramatically over the last 10 years and where fizzy drinks and sweet foods are the obvious culprits\, many people are not aware of many other foods which also contain large amounts of ‘free sugars’” said Pauline. \n. \n  \n2. Dr Lisa Hynes\,  Health Psychologist\,  Health Behaviour Change Research Group\,  NUI Galway \nLisa  explores ways to help us put health advice into practice.  \n  \n3. Sligo \nDate: Week 1\, Wednesday June 15 \nTime : 6.oopm \nTo Book Call: Regina Patton 071 914 6001 \nThese places book up quite quickly and can only be attended from week 1 with no late acceptance for the following 3 weeks. \nFacilitor: Clair Naughton \nCODE allows people with diabetes to talk in a supportive atmosphere about their own diabetes for the benefit of everyone in the group. Time is allocated during the programme for problem solving\, feedback on diabetes self management behaviours and goal settling. Diabetes knowledge and skills are reinforced and the responsibility for the personal self management of diabetes is gradually strengthened. \nTopics covered in CODE include diabetes explained\, risk factors\, signs and symptoms\, healthy eating\, physical activity\, personal goal setting\, complications and the necessity of regular follow up and the importance of optimal diabetes control. The six month session looks at the review of achievements and personal goal setting. Our flexible approach allows the sessions to be tailored to meet the self identified needs of each group. \n

The Strength in Numbers Conference aims to bring together service providers\, policy makers\, researchers and young adults with type 1 diabetes to share and develop new approaches to diabetes management. \nOrganisers are currently conducting a Health Research Board-funded study to develop an intervention to improve outcomes for young adults with Type 1 Diabetes in Ireland. Sean Dinneen is the Principal Investigator on this multidisciplinary research study. They have conducted a systematic review of interventions in this area and a qualitative study with young adults and service providers and are now using the Behaviour Change Wheel\, a novel method from behavioural science to develop interventions\, to develop our intervention. A really exciting and novel aspect of this research\, is that they have successfully engaged a young adult panel of 18 to 25 year olds (n=8) living with type 1 diabetes\, and members of this panel input to all aspects of the research. \nPROGRAMME DETAILS AND HOW TO REGISTER FOR THIS FREE EVENT ARE AVAILABLE HERE \nJoin the conversation on twitter #T1DSINs2016.
