SUMMARY:GALWAY - Type 1 Information Meeting
DESCRIPTION:  \nFree Patient Education Evening for Adults with Type 1 Diabetes \n  \nThe expert Diabetes Health Team from Galway University Hospital will meet adults with Type 1 Diabetes at this interactive patient evening at the Croí Heart and Stroke Centre in Galway \n______________________________________________________________________________ \n  \nThis forthcoming free education evening is designed specifically to support people in dealing with the challenges of managing Type 1 Diabetes. It will take place on Tuesday 19th September from 6pm to 9pm at the Croí Heart & Stroke Centre\, Moyola Lane\, Newcastle\, Galway. Consultant Physicians and Dietitians will be on hand to deliver talks and group sessions on the following topics: Exercise\, Physical Activity and Type 1 Diabetes\, Foot Care and Understanding Hypoglycemia. A panel discussion and Q&A session with all of the speakers will close the event. \n  \nType 1 Diabetes requires active patient involvement in self-management by taking regular insulin injections and appropriately monitoring blood sugar levels. Even in motivated patients it can be difficult to avoid day-to-day fluctuations in blood glucose levels resulting in high and low blood sugar levels. \n  \nThis collaborative event by Croí\, the Diabetes Unit at Galway University Hospital and Diabetes Ireland aims to be very informal\, interactive and informative and will be of huge practical benefit to adults of all ages with Type 1 Diabetes. The evening will facilitate valuable one to one and group learning and will also provide an opportunity to meet others suffering with the condition and ask questions to diabetes specialist experts. \nAnnouncing details of the event\, Consultant Physician Dr Sean Dinneen said “all of us in the Diabetes Centre are keen to explore new ways of engaging with our patients\, in particular around the area of self-management. We are very much looking forward to this opportunity to deliver what should be an interesting\, useful and practical evening for adults with Type 1 Diabetes”. \nPlaces for this FREE patient evening are limited and must be reserved in advance by registering online at Eventbrite or by calling Croí on 091 544310. Places will be offered on a first-come\, first-served basis. This event is supported by an educational grant from Abbott and Bluebird Care. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n
