SUMMARY:LIMERICK-Type 2 & Pre-diabetes Education Course (CODE)
DESCRIPTION:Structured education course for Type 2 & Pre-diabetes \nCODE is Diabetes Ireland’s  group education programme for people with Type 2 Diabetes or diagnosed Pre-diabetes.  CODE aims to deliver general information about diabetes self-management in a local community group setting. CODE allows people with diabetes to talk in a supportive atmosphere about their own diabetes. Time is allocated during the programme for problem solving\, feedback on diabetes self management behaviours and goal setting. \nCODE developed by Diabetes Ireland\, is being run by Diabetes Ireland in Doon Community Centre\, Limerick \nThe aim of the course is to help you manage your diabetes and it will cover topics such as diabetes knowledge and management\, nutrition and physical activity and self monitoring of diabetes control. \nThe course will be run by Diabetes Ireland\, Regional Development Officer and Senior Dietitian\, Ms. Pauline Dunne. \nThe first session will be 2 ½ hours long and the remaining sessions 2 hours long including a tea/coffee break. The first 3 sessions take place over 3 consecutive weeks at the Abbeyknockmoy Community Centre\, Chapelfield\, Tuam\, Co. Galway. \nWeek 1: Thursday 6th June 10:30am – 1pm \nWeek 2 :Thursday 13th June 10:30am – 12:30pm \nWeek 3 :Thursday 20th June 10:30am – 12:30pm \nWeek 4 To be confirmed \nYou are asked to attend all four sessions to get maximum benefit from the course.  \nCODE is free of charge. \nTopics covered in CODE include diabetes explained\, risk factors\, signs and symptoms\, healthy eating\, physical activity\, personal goal setting\, complications and the necessity of regular follow up and the importance of optimal diabetes control. The six month session looks at the review of achievements and personal goal setting.
