SUMMARY:GALWAY - Type 2 & Pre-diabetes Education Course (CODE)
DESCRIPTION:Structured education course for Type 2 & Pre-diabetes  \nCODE is Diabetes Ireland’s  group education programme for people with Type 2 Diabetes or diagnosed Pre-diabetes.  CODE aims to deliver general information about diabetes self-management in a local community group setting. CODE allows people with diabetes to talk in a supportive atmosphere about their own diabetes. Time is allocated during the programme for problem solving\, feedback on diabetes self management behaviours and goal setting. \nThe programme is facilitated by Ms. Elaine Newell\, Diabetes Nurse Specialist  and consists of 4 sessions of 2 hour duration.  The first 3 sessions take place over 3 consecutive weeks Westside Community Resource Centre\, Seamus Quirke Road\, Galway. \nWeek 1: Thursday May 31st from 10 am to 12.30 pm \nWeek 2: Thursday June 7th from 10 am to 12 noon \nWeek 3: Thursday June 14th from 10 am to 12 noon \nReview Session: Thursday November 22nd  from 10 am to 12 noon \nCODE is free of charge. \nTopics covered in CODE include diabetes explained\, risk factors\, signs and symptoms\, healthy eating\, physical activity\, personal goal setting\, complications and the necessity of regular follow up and the importance of optimal diabetes control. The six month session looks at the review of achievements and personal goal setting.
